The usual approach to this problem is to use a public-key infrastructure (PKI), in which one or more third parties, known as certificate authorities, certify ownership of key pairs.

The transport layer also arranges for key re-exchange, usually after 1 GB of data tunneling with putty has been transferred or after 1 hour has passed, whichever is sooner.

The difference factor is the use of typically quite large keys.

While IPv4 allows 32 bits for an Internet Protocol address, and can tunneling with putty therefore support 232 (4,294,967,296) addresses, IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses, so the new address space supports 2128 (approximately 340 undecillion or 3.4×1038) addresses.
