X features network transparency: the machine where an application program (the client application) runs can differ from the user's putty net local machine (the display server).

Automated tunneling provides a compromise putty net between the ease of use of automatic tunneling and the deterministic behaviour of configured tunneling.

Anonymous access: As SSH access is tunneled through the server-side web application, it is the web application server which actually communicates with the SSH server.
